What Is a Blast Sprayer? Guide to Air Blast Sprayer Uses & Maintenance
A blast sprayer is agricultural equipment built to apply liquid crop chemicals. It protects crops from pests and diseases.
It works for many plants: fruit trees, berries, vegetables and perennial specialty crops. Most sprayers are tractor trailed or mounted via 3-point hitch.
How it Work
Blast sprayers are air-assisted. A fan pushes spray droplets into the crop canopy.
They are widely used in orchards and vineyards. It performs well where standard sprayers cause soil compaction, crop damage or chemical drift.
This machine suits small acreage farms needing repeated spraying. It reduces crop abrasion and splashing that spreads infection to nearby plants. It also costs less than boom sprayers.
Multiple sizes and models are available. Nozzles and flow rates can be adjusted to fit your farm’s needs.
Maintenance
Like all farm machines, your blast sprayer needs routine maintenance to stay reliable. Preventive checks save costly emergency repairs.
Pump Diaphragm
Inspect the pump diaphragm regularly. A worn diaphragm can stop the sprayer suddenly. Track operating hours to schedule replacement.
PTO Shaft
Grease the PTO shaft splines, tubes, universal joints and connections. Use NLGI No.2 grease to avoid seized parts under heavy load.
Clean After Every Use
Rinse all sprayer parts after each job. Chemical residue leads to corrosion. Use ammonia-free detergent; ammonia damages sprayer components.
Nozzle Care
Clean nozzles often to keep your sprayer working efficiently. Soak nozzles in warm, soapy water, rinse and dry fully. Store nozzles safely to avoid loss or mixing.
